SnoCleat PBR Kit Contents

The SnoCleat PBR is an all-aluminum screw-down pad-style snow guard specially designed for mechanically fastened PBR or R panels.

The 6 holes are precisely pre-drilled so the snow stops can easily be fastened through the panel onto a purlin. This device is mounted utilizing a minimum of three #14 roofing screws with neoprene washers. Additional fasteners may be used in the remaining holes if extra holding strength is desired. A foam gasket is supplied for installation between the guard and the panel, eliminating the need for glue or liquid sealant. The SnoCleat PBR features a large 4-inch-wide face fastened with 2 tek-screws.

The face of the guard is specifically designed to accept an optional 4-inch-wide by 2-inch-tall color strip to match your roof.

The SnoCleat PBR is for screw-down applications only and adhesive mounting of this guard is not recommended. Snow Guards used in just isolated roof areas such as chimneys, doorways, vents, and partial roof sections are not recommended. Mounting screws are sold separately. Which type of screw do I need to attach my SnoCleat PBR?

The majority of our screw-down snow guards can be installed using one of the two types of screws that we offer. The Master Grippers are 2" long #14 self-tapping screws for wood purlins, and the Master Drillers are 1.5" long #14 self-tapping screws for metal purlins. These fasteners have neoprene washers, are silver in color, and are made of case-hardened carbon steel. Longer screws may be required, depending on whether or not there is insulation under the panels.

Do I need a liquid sealant with the SnoCleat PBR?

A die-cut foam gasket is provided for use in place of liquid sealant with our metal SnowCatchers, SnoCleat PBR, and SnoCleat 2.67. In some instances, our customers will install these bases and then run a bead of sealant around them to add additional protection. This step is not required.

Does the SnoCleat PBR get mounted in a straight line or in a staggered formation?

The SnoCleat PBR snow guard should always be installed in staggered rows covering the full length of the roof section that you are protecting. Installations in isolated areas such as over doorways, above chimneys and vent pipes, or over HVAC units are never recommended. Multiple rows may be required going up the slope depending on several factors, such as roof pitch, panel dimensions, ground snow load, etc. Please refer to our Spacing Guidelines Page for spacing recommendations.

What are my options for color-matching the SnoCleat PBR?

When using the SnoCleat PBR, a 2" wide strip of flat stock metal roofing material may be inserted into the channels on the front face of the guard and its bracket. This can be made from left over roofing material. Custom powder coating is also available at an additional cost. A physical color sample will typically need to be provided for precise color matching. For information on pricing and availability, you can call us at 1-800-766-5291. Color-matched snow guards normally require 3-4 weeks for production and are not kept in stock. Customers can opt to spray paint them upon arrival or have them coated locally.

Do roof leaks typically result from the installation of snow guards with screws?

Roof leaks shouldn't occur if a snow guard system has been installed correctly. Make sure that you use screws with neoprene washers and combine them with either foam gaskets for metal snow guards or liquid silicone for polycarbonate snow guards. Many customers decide against adding new roof penetrations for snow guards. They often choose to install a glue-down snow retention system using the Surebond SB-190 adhesive as an alternative.
